Pihos Announces State Grant for Glen Ellyn Public Library Flood Repairs

GLEN ELLYN, IL… State Representative Sandy Pihos (R-Glen Ellyn) joined Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White at the Glen Ellyn Public Library Monday to present the library with an Illinois Public Library Construction Act Grant to help repair damage stemming from an April 2013 storm.

“Libraries are the greatest cornerstone of our community and provide unparalleled access to educational resources,” said Pihos. “I appreciate the state’s assistance in helping the Glen Ellyn Public Library through the renovations needed following the major April flood that devastated much of the DuPage County area.”

The Glen Ellyn Public Library became eligible for the grant after an April 18, 2013 rainstorm that flooded the library’s subbasement in five feet of water and damaged the building’s major mechanical systems

The Public Library Act Grant provides state matching funding to support design and new construction, remodeling, renovation or maintenance of public libraries in Illinois. The Library sustained over $350,000 in flood damages and has undergone over $200,000 in flood preventative measures.

The Public Library Construction Act Grant has been allocated toward flood repairs and the installation of flood preventative measures. Illinois has allocated state aid to this project in the amount of $157,469.55. The remaining money for the project will come from the library's reserve fund.
