Glen Ellyn Students Get Another Day Off Tuesday

Monday's District 87 School Board meeting also canceled. Wind chills of 30 below will continue through midday Tuesday.

Update: College of DuPage will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Glen Ellyn students will have another day off, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, due to continued sub-zero temperatures and dangerous wind chills. 

Glenbard High School District 87, Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 and Community Consolidated District 89 all have canceled classes for a second day. All school-related activities also have been canceled.

District 87 also has canceled its board of education meeting for Monday evening.

As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, St. James, St. Petronille and College of DuPage had not announced cancellations for Tuesday. This story will be updated if more information becomes available.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

"A prolonged period of dangerously cold and potentially life threatening wind chills will occur through Tuesday morning," according to the Weather Service. 

Wind chills of 30 below zero will continue through midday Tuesday, with periods of 40 to 50 below zero through Monday afternoon. Temperatures in this range can easily cause hypothermia and even death, according to the warning.
