Lou Reed Cover Songs Welcome at Open Mic Night

The Glen Ellyn Public Library is hosting an Open Mic Night at Honey Café on Wednesday, November 6 and are welcoming performers to play Lou Reed cover songs in tribute to the iconic rock legend who passed away on October 27th at the age of 71.

Reed’s passing was met with a number of musicians and critics who underscored his importance on the musical landscape. Chicago Tribune music journalist Greg Kot said that Reed and his band The Velvet Underground “directly influenced more music in the last 40 years than any band,” while Julian Casablancas of The Strokes said, “Lou Reed is the reason I do everything I do.”

The Glen Ellyn Public Library’s increasingly popular Open Mic Nights typically feature a mix of original songs written and performed by local artists as well as cover songs by artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Alt-J, Cage the Elephant, John Prine and Lorde.
