AUW Book Discussion - Half the Sky

Mao Zedong noted that "Women hold up half the sky." Despite comprising over half the world's population, women from every part of the the globe suffer horrendous abuse: sex trafficking and child prostitution, bride burning and acid attacks, honor killing and rape as a political tool, genital mutilation, maternal mortality, religious restrictions on  human and civil rights.

This meeting of the Wheaton-Glen Ellyn AAUW will be our first ever branch-wide book discussion. To prepare, members and interested others are asked to read Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s riveting bestseller, Half the Sky. The book not only documents the heart-wrenching abuse of women world-wide, but offers practical and low cost ways the issues can be addressed.
