MAC's Lakeside Pavilion's Free Outdoor Film Series Continues with “ET, The Extra Terrestrial” July 24 at 8:30 p.m.

The MAC's Lakeside Pavilion continues its inaugural Summer 2014 Starlight Free Movie Series with the Steven Spielberg blockbuster “ET, The Extra Terrestrial” (1982; Rated PG) Thursday, July 24 at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 630.942.4000 or visit AtTheMAC.org.

“E.T.” tells the story of Elliott a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings have a series of adventures as they try keep E.T. a secret from their mother and the government before they are ultimately able to help E.T. reconnect to the mother ship and go home.

“E.T.”, produced by Amblin Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures was nominated for nine Academy Awards nominations and received four Oscars: Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Score (John Williams), and Best Sound. New York Times Vincent Canby hailed “E.T” as being “as contemporary as laser-beam technology…4 Stars.” Chicago Sun-Times movie critic Roger Ebert gave “E.T.” a 4-star review citing “This movie made my heart glad. It is filled with innocence, hope, and good cheer. It is also wickedly funny and exciting as hell.”

Following “E.T.”, movies remaining in the Summer 2014 Starlight Free Movie Series  include John Landis’ popular musical film “The Blues Brothers” (1980; Rated R) and Harold Ramis’ paranormal hit “Ghostbusters” (1984; Rated PG) with screenings on July 31 and Aug. 7 respectively.

All movies take place rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring a blanket and picnic to enjoy at the concert. No outside alcohol will be permitted onto the property.

Concessions available for purchase at the Lakeside Pavilion include soda, wine, beer, popcorn, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza by Wheaton’s Copper Oven Pizza, and gourmet fare by Lisle’s Chef by Request including an imported cheese plate, beef tenderloin and turkey breast sandwiches, three-cheese tortellini with sun-dried tomato pesto and a seasonal fresh fruit plate.
