Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s Tavern Day Celebration Features Interactive Pioneer Life

Pioneer life is the theme of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society’s Tavern Day celebration, and there will be a wide variety of activities for hands-on history fun for the entire family.  Tavern Day is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm and is on the grounds of Historic Stacy’s corners, 800 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn.
New this year are Maggie the Milking Cow and scarecrow stuffing.  Learn about bees and beekeeping and about the stagecoach lines that once operated in this area.  Be delighted by the Goodrich’s farm animals, various historic demonstrations and music by members of Anima - Young Singers of Greater Chicago and other local musicians.  Listen to tall tales, make a corn husk doll, do pioneer chores such as rope making, corn shelling, candle dipping, laundry, and more.  Play pioneer games, including games of strength and skill like Tug of War.  Beautiful two gallon potted mums will be for sale on the grounds.  Tickets for Tavern Day are $6 GEHS adults members , $3 GEHS student members, $8 adult non-members, $4 student non-members.  Students are ages 3-17.  Tickets are purchased at the gate or ahead of time at Stacy’s Corners Store, 800 N. Main Street, 630-469-1867, e-mail: info@gehs.org.  Tickets purchased ahead of time will be charged the member rate.
