Pull Power From Your Money

Pay attention to the "chatter" in your head when you are dealing with or thinking about money.

How many times have you heard the phrase “Money is Power”?  This is often followed by “He who has the money has the power”.

I challenge both of these statements.  Money gives us the feeling of being powerful because that is the image our society (advertising) has provided to us.  The fast cars, big homes and Donald Trumps of the world conjure up visions of unbridled control, influence and success (or you’re fired!).

It’s time we claim our personal power back from money.  It does not have power over us.  It should not intimidate us.  It is just a symbol of value.

The real truth is that those with the money have learned the secrets to making and keeping money.  It is truly a mind over matter situation.  You might already know the concept that Thoughts Create Reality.  Most recently the book and movie titled The Secret brought this idea to the general public. This is not a new idea though.

In 1937, the personal development book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill was published. The inspiration for this book, as well as Hill’s previous book The Law of Success, came from a suggestion by Andrew Carnegie to study the characteristics of very wealthy individuals.

It is noted in the book that an individual with desire, faith and persistence can reach great heights by eliminating negative energy and thoughts and focusing on the greater goals in hand.[i]

Readers the likes of W. Clement Stone and football star Fran Tarkenton have praised the book having greatly influenced their personal success.

So I ask you, is money power? I would argue that the real challenge it is to have the Mental Power over Money! The latter is called your money mindset.

Most of our thoughts and behaviors come from our unconscious mind. We often run on auto-pilot.   Have you ever driven to the wrong place and wondered why you ended up there?  Shortly after I had moved within the same town, I was driving home.  Instead of going to my new place, I drove right past it to my former home. My unconscious mind was in control of the wheel.

Pay attention to the “chatter” in your head when you are dealing with or thinking about money. Are you fretting over it?  Are you frustrated or anxious? Do you worry about it a lot?  Does it have power over you or do you control your money thoughts and behaviors?

Another thought about money to ponder: Money should not be hoarded; it should be shared.

When we all let go of scarcity thinking there will be plenty of money to go around.  Both rich people and poor people can have scarcity thinking.  They both believe that they don’t have enough.

Wealthy oil man, J Paul Getty said: “Money is like manure.  You have to spread it around or it smells.”

These are just a few concepts about money I invite you to ponder.

Wishing you all positive, prosperous and powerful thoughts about money!
