Well-Known Glen Ellyn Bulletin Board Commenter Starts New Forum

"Clamato" from the GEBB is back.

It's "Clamato" in the cyber world and Jim Burket by day.

"Clamato" was a regular commenter on the Glen Ellyn Bulletin Board, featured on the website Glen-Ellyn.com. After 15 years the site manager pulled the plug on the GEBB, leaving "Clamato" and others looking for a cyber space of their own.

"Someone needs to pick up the ball and run with it," explained Burket.

And, that's exactly what he and Bob Solak did.

Longing for a place to continue to vent, share and discuss topics affecting the residents of Glen Ellyn, the two created The Glen Ellyn Forum.

The site is very similar to the previous board and some commenters have flocked to the new domain using the same names, or handles.

For Burket, it's all about being local. To him, local politics is the one civic realm where residents should get involved because local government has the ability to affect every resident.

But the forum, like the original GEBB, is not just a way to keep tabs on governing bodies, it's a place to share information and topics like power outages and the best place for ACT tutoring.

Burket may have become well known for his many posts under the handle "Clamato" on the previous board, but he says it's not a gigantic part of his life, like it may seem. He wants his own site to become a resource for the community, and said it'll be successful when it's "as valuable a tool as the old one was."
