Thief Steals Downtown Store Cashbox

Approximately $200 was inside the stolen cashbox.

A boxer dog did not stop a thief from nabbing the cashbox from the P.S. Flowers shop on Tuesday.

"That's the scary part," said owner Patty Sorenson.

Sorenson stepped out to help an elderly customer and another employee was in the back room when the theft occurred sometime between 4 and 5 p.m.

"Whoever did it, they walked right up and grabbed it," explained Sorenson.

The thief made out with about $200 inside the cashbox. Now Sorenson plans to put a censor on the door, so they can hear individuals enter.

This is the second recent theft in the downtown area. Just last week at Shear Pandemonia an employee was working when an unknown offender snatched her cell phone.

The Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce is urging store owners to keep an eye on cash boxes at all times, in addition to locking them up.
