Holiday 2012: Donors Sought for Thanksgiving, Christmas Basket Programs

Is your group, church, club or school holding a fundraiser or giving back to a community group this holiday? Share the information with Local Editor Mary Ann Lopez and we will add it to our list.

Glen Ellyn Junior Woman’s Club Christmas Baskets Program

Donors are being sought to adopt a family for the holidays.

For more than 60 years the Glen Ellyn Junior Woman's Club has provided holiday cheer through their Christmas Baskets program, which benefits local community members in need.

Donors adopt a family and buy gifts for each person in the family.  Participating families range from small to large.  Food from the Salvation Army and gifts through local school toy drives are added to the family basket.

DuPage County Basket Brigade

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and DuPage County residents are invited to participate in Operation Basket Brigade, which will collect and distribute food baskets to needy DuPage County families in time for Thanksgiving.

  • County residents can help with Operation Basket Brigade in several ways:
  • Donate food for the holiday baskets.
  • Volunteer to help with the sorting and packing of food donations into holiday meal baskets.
  • Help create awareness of this activity in their place of worship, where there may be other people who wish to donate food or volunteer their time to sort and pack the holiday food baskets.

DuPage County Township Officials will assist by identifying needy families and helping with the delivery of the food baskets, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

In addition to the goal of helping needy families, Operation Basket Brigade will be part of a warehousing and distribution exercise by the DuPage County Health Department’s Office of Risk and Emergency Management (OREM).

For detailed information on how you can assist Operation Basket Brigade, please visit http://www.dupagehealth.org/giving or contact any OREM staff member at 630-221-7888.
