Green Group Challenges Residents to Cut Energy Usage

Households that are able to cut energy usage by five percent could win a $500 gift certificate.

A new green group in Glen Ellyn is challenging residents to curb their energy consumption.  

If residents can cut their household energy usage by five percent compared to this time last year, they'll have a chance to win one of 10 $500 gift certificates to local home improvement retailers. 

"Our mission is to help businesses and individuals understand sustainability," said Paul Isaac, a member of GreenGroup.

ComEd teamed up with group and will monitor household energy consumption during June, July and August and will compare those rates with last year's. The households that meet or exceed the challenge could then win one of the $500 prizes.

The challenge will kick off at the Taste of Glen Ellyn on May 19 where interested residents will be able to sign up for the competition.
