Glen Ellyn Man Wins $1 Million in Powerball

After finding a pile of lottery tickets and checking the numbers, Ron Yurcus discovered he was a winner.

A Glen Ellyn man found a $1 million surprise sitting on his desk. Along with a bunch of other lottery tickets, Ron Yurcus had a winning Powerball ticket waiting to be discovered.

Yurcus hit the numbers in the August 22 Powerball drawing when his ticket matched the first five numbers – 22 - 29 - 31 - 47 - 55 - (19), according to the Illinois Lottery. He only checked the ticket after finding it a few weeks ago.

“About 12 tickets had accumulated on my desk, and I decided to tidy up to make room for my new computer,” Yurcus said in a news release. “I checked the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website and just about screamed when I saw that I won.”

A retired chaplain, Yurcus along with his wife of 45 years, Kathleen, plan to invest some of the money and share some with their family, including their three children and grandchildren, according to the lottery. They will also be donating some of the money to charities.

“My wife and I have always donated our time and energy to various charities,” Yurcus said in the news release. “Now, because of this lottery win, we can donate financially as well.”
