Santa Spends an Evening in Glen Ellyn

Christmas tree lighting highlights the start of the season

The basket on the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. snorkel swung closer and closer to the top of the tree as Santa's hand reached over the side.  As dozens and dozens of flashes went off, you could almost hear old St. Nick chuckling as he pulled his hand away before touching the star that would light the tree and signal the official start of the Christmas season.  One more stretch of Santa's hand, though, and this time the tree came to life in a blaze of light!

Santa then proceeded to the fire station, where children waited patiently in line to let Santa know they have been good this year, and could he please pick up this toy or that when he stopped by on Christmas Eve.

The tree lighting and Santa visit were all part of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce Holiday Walk. The annual event brings hundreds of residents downtown for the festivities, while business stay open late. The Glen Ellyn Public Library and the chamber also partnered to offer carriage rides to those downtown for the holiday event.
