Downtown Glen Ellyn Transforming into Winter Wonderland Saturday

Santa and his reindeer will be visiting downtown Glen Ellyn Saturday, turning downtown into a Winter Wonderland.

Snow is elusive this holiday season, but that isn’t going to keep Glen Ellyn’s downtown from turning into a winter wonderland.

Saturday, downtown Glen Ellyn will be filled with holiday spirit, even if the weather doesn’t comply.

From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. families and shoppers are invited to hang out downtown, stroll through the shops, meet with Santa Claus and enjoy free carriage rides.

Last year the Alliance of Dowtown Glen Ellyn held events every Saturday during the holiday season, but this year it chose to focus on one specific day, said Carol White, executive director of the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn.

About 300 children and parents will be downtown after riding the Polar Express train, so the expectation is there will be a lot of downtown visitors, she said.

Santa and his reindeer will be downtown from 1 to 3 p.m., White said. Photos with Santa and the reindeer will be taken at the Glen Ellyn Volunter Fire Co. firehouse downtown.

The free carriage rides will be offered from 10:30 to 3:30 p.m. In addition, there will be holiday carolers performing around downtown.

Cupcakes will be for sale at the fire station and some stores will be providing hot cider, White said.

As part of the holiday decorations, many downtown businesses have put their own spin on the snowman with custom decorated snowmen in their windows. The Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn is asking downtown visitors to snap a photo of their favorite and post it on Facebook to be entered to win a $25 gift card to spend in town, according to White.
