Children Rushed to Hospital After Hotel Fire

A fire broke out at America's Best Value Inn and Suites on Roosevelt Road at 3:22 p.m.

Update: According to Jeff Buccola, second assistant fire chief, three small children were transported to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries. 

"Damage was minimal. It was contained to the bedroom of one of the first-floor units," said Buccola. 

Buccola said it's unclear at this time what room the children were in.

The investigators are still on the scene and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The residents of are now allowed to return to the building.

First report: Multiple fire units responded to a fire on the first floor of the on Roosevelt Road at 3:22 p.m. 

Jeff Freer, a resident on the second floor, said two small children were rushed from the burning room and had visible burn wounds on their arms. 

According to Freer, the children were then taken to the hospital in an ambulance. No word yet on their condition. 

Residents on the the south-side of the building did not witness any flames but did report smelling smoke. 

Alex Taylor-Garrett lives on the second floor and said he left the building when the alarm sounded and after receiving a phone call from the manager, alerting him of the fire. Taylor-Garrett said about 20-30 people then filed out of the building. 

"I didn't start smelling smoke until I came downstairs," said Taylor-Garrett.
