DTA Wildcats NEW 10U-14U

Baseball Parent Coaches - The Current Dilemma Each year about this time, I hear from parents who are frustrated with their son’s baseball coach. They call me for advice or to request lessons to “fix the problems” that their son has acquired playing with his current travel team. The same problems surface for parents and players. Politics, cliques, friendships or other issues arise and whether they are real or perceived, parents and players go through their season without the proper instruction, not having fun and in some cases ready to quit the game of baseball altogether as a result. It is true, there are some parent coaches who played the game and understand how to coach, but in general, I like to compare it to the roles of parents vs. teachers. Parents can of course “educate” their children, but teachers have gone to school to study the specifics of how to educate children. Typically, the parent coaching his son’s team today is a parent who played a little ball in his day, now has an office job and does some online searches for the new batting/pitching techniques. He does not have the training in coaching and instruction and often may say or do things that are incorrect. The player feels helpless because he is not progressing and the parents feel “trapped” because they paid a lot of money to have their son on the “travel team” and they know the (dad) coach socially. Unfortunately, there are limited options for players to play with a team that does not have a father of one of the player’s as a head coach. So, what is the answer to making sure your son is on a travel team driven by people who are trained to coach baseball? This fall, DuPage Training Academy will be expanding our popular DTA Wildcats 15U – 18U college exposure teams to offer DTA Wildcats travel teams for ages 10 – 14U. Each team will have non-parent coaches that will train the team during the offseason and will have non-parent coaches for each team during the 2014 season. We believe the time is right to offer this program to those high level players who are looking for something better than their current travel team from both a coaching and instructional standpoint. Please go to our website at www.dtawildcats.com to read more about the program. Tryout dates/times will take place in late July/early August.
