Resale Boutique Has Grand Opening

Swap Shop Resale Boutique is designed to carry current and high-end merchandise in its downtown Glen Ellyn location.

The new shop at 484 Main St. in downtown Glen Ellyn was buzzing Saturday. It was the first day of business for the Swap Shop Resale Boutique.

The shop was in the works in December 2010 when shop owner Beverly Moran chose Glen Ellyn to her boutique. Moran previously owned several other stores but always dreamed of opening a resale shop. The first week of January her dream came true when she signed a lease on the shop; she started taking consignments for the boutique the following week. After the lease had been signed and the consignments were sifting in, it only took Moran about a month to set up shop and get ready for her opening.

The store was packed the morning of the grand opening with tables full of cookies and prizes for new guests. Moran was thrilled at the turnout.

"If you see something you like you should buy it right away because it may be gone," shopper Jill McMillan said when she discovered that a hat she had tried on earlier in the day was gone.

With most prices marked at less than half of normal sale prices and many items with store tags still on them, it is no wonder that the shop's opening was a success.

"This is not your typical resale shop," Moran said. "We have more current pieces than other resale shops do. We have high-end upscale products. We also offer swishing parties where guests bring in five or more items to trade with friends. The parties last for three hours."

"It’s totally fun to come in here and be able to buy high end clothing at reasonable prices," customer Sue Mercer said. "The quality of the items here is also wonderful and the people who work here are so friendly which makes this much different than a department store."

The guests praised this addition to the Downtown Glen Ellyn area.

"It’s great to have an affordable, fun and stylish boutique in Glen Ellyn and I hope it’s a success," McMillan added.

Regular hours for the Swap Shop Resale Boutique are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. The shop is closed Monday.

If you are interested in selling something at the shop, consignment days are 1-3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Saturday.
