A new business is coming to Downtown Glen Ellyn, opening soon in the space left vacant when Knickers closed.
The co-owners of Bird On A Wire Studio are hoping to hold a soft launch opening in March at its location, 492 N. Main St.
The business was granted approval from the Village of Glen Ellyn Board of Trustees for $803.50 (a 50-percent matching grant) in façade grant funding to install a new awning and cover along with installing glass block. The business also secured $2,445.86 in interior grant funding (also a 50-percent grant), to help create a more inviting space.
Kathryn Alcock and Megan Swadley are the co-owners of the business, which will include a studio and retail space.
Bird On A Wire Studio will be a working art studio, Alcock said during the board meeting held on Feb. 11. The business will offer art lessons for children, teens, ladies, men, groups, clubs — anyone interested in learning, she said.
In addition, the space will also include a retail store where items made on site, such as jewelry, will be sold, along with items from regional and international artists, she said. The store will also offer gift items items and art kits.
The soft opening is expected to take place in March, with a grand opening planned for April, she said.
