How did the business come to be?

The Glen Ellyn Youth Services Bureau was incorporated October 17,1981 under the direction and at the initiative of a group of local, community minded citizens who formed the original GEYFCS Board of Directors. The name was changed to the Glen Ellyn Youth and Family Counseling Service, October 14, 1981 per an amendment to the Articles of Incorporation. While non-affilliated our office has been located at the First Congreagational Church of Glen Ellyn since approximately 1978.
The provision of our service, past and present, is possible because of a local, active volunteer Board of Directors, who oversee the operation and helps to raise funds.

Why did you choose the area you did?

Glen Ellyn was choosen as a reflection of the intent of the original Board of Directors to organize a locally based system of individual, family and community based mental health support.

Youth and family counseling was choosen to present a helping option to local youth and families in conflict, transition or crisis.

What does your business offer?

The GEYFCS functions as a community based mental health center offering a full range of counseling services to youth and adults, family counseling, couple counseling, crisis intervention, school consultation/collaboration and referral and linkage assistance to those lacking basic resources (food, shelter, health care, etc.).

We are best known in the community for our ability to provide a diverse range of professional counseling and mental health support services while removing economic barriers to accessing care. Our service area includes all Village of Glen Ellyn residents and residents who live in a surrounding community who have a child who attends (or would be eligible) to attend a Glen Ellyn based school (parts of Wheaton, Lombard, Glendale Heights).

What’s a fact about your business that most customers probably don’t know?

Our mission statement requires that no one is ever denied services based on an inability.

What’s your most popular product or service?

Our most popular service is our youth and family counseling program. 

Within the past year, we have seen the development of a significant trend with the increase in the number of young adults (19-26) seeking our service.
