Glen Ellyn Yogurt Shop Expands Into One of the Busiest Spots in Chicagoland

Fashion Outlets of Chicago will see somewhere around 18 million shoppers a year. How's that for exposure?

Brett Boyke and his wife, Marianne Celak, may have just struck frozen yogurt gold. The Elmhurst residents last month opened their second location of Skinny Sweet Frozen Yogurt at the brand new, wildly popular Fashion Outlets of Chicago.

Boyke said they had a great response to the original shop they opened about a year ago, at 545 Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, so they decided to spread the Skinny Sweet love around.

"Guests love our product and our store, and they often ask us to open in other areas near them," Boyke said.

And, what a way to grow. Since opening day Aug. 1, Fashion Outlets of Chicago, located on Interstate 294, directly across from O'Hare Airport, has been packed with shoppers from all over the world. They are drawn to the mall's 120 stores that carry everything from luxury brands, like Prada and Coach, to more moderately priced merchandise, like Forever 21 and Carter's.

"There are many in this market that are opening frozen yogurt shops just to open them, no matter the location," Boyke said. "Like any small business owner, we want to open only successful stores, and part of that recipe is location. We know the new Fashion Outlets of Chicago Mall is going to be a great success and we are very excited and honored to be a part of it."

Boyke said they are expecting the new location to pull in about two to three times the sales of the Glen Ellyn store. But with an anticipated 18 million visitors a year at the outlet mall, according to Boyke, sales could be even greater.

The Glen Ellyn shop offers 14 flavors and more than 60 toppings; in Rosemont, shoppers can choose from 10 flavors and 40 toppings. Skinny Sweet offers tart, fruit, premium and signature flavors of yogurt in several varieties: non-fat, low-fat, no sugar added, sorbet and Greek. And, it's kosher-certified, antibiotic and hormone-free, filled with probiotics with live cultures that have plenty of health benefits.

All that aside, "It's delicious," Boyke said.

Boyke and Celak are not planning to rest much, either. What's next for Skinny Sweet?

"Our goal is to open one location per year over the next few years," Boyke said.

Here's to making the world a little sweeter, one Skinny Sweet treat at a time.
