The Fresh Market Opens Next Month in Glen Ellyn

The new, specialty grocer will host a Career Open House for prospective employees on Jan. 15.

It won't be long now.

The Fresh Market, a brand new, European-style gourmet grocery store, will open in Glen Ellyn next month. The store is the anchor tenant at the Glen Ellyn Market Shopping Center, 285 Roosevelt Road, which recently was developed on property where an abandoned car dealership once stood.

The business is based in North Carolina. It operates 131 stores in 25 states, primarily located in the Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, with plans for continued expansion throughout the country. In the Chicago area, it operates stores in Crystal Lake, Geneva, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire and Wilmette.

The store joins another specialty grocer, Mariano's, which opened just down Roosevelt Road in Wheaton in October.

The Fresh Market retailers typically bring 80 to 90 jobs to the towns where they are developed, and the Glen Ellyn store is no exception. Needed in the coming weeks are assistant deli managers, assistant produce managers, assistant front end managers, meat cutters, bakers, specialists and more.

Next week, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, the store will host a Career Open House for prospective employees from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sheraton Lisle, 3000 Warrenville Road.

Prior to the open house, all attendees are required to apply online at careers.thefreshmarket.com

The Fresh Market considers itself more than "just a store." From the company website:

"We are active members of the community. We support local producers, growers and fishermen. We support local food banks and charities. We are neighbors serving neighbors."

I hope fresh market gives many of these jobs to the great people from the recently closed Dominicks, they are deserving!

That's an awfully narrow tract of land. Are they going to have enough parking?

Visited on opening day, large crowd of interested shoppers. Seems like a mixture of Whole Foods and Mariano's. Found three items not seen elsewhere. Will return for longer visit and discover more.
