Furniture Store With a Funny Name Opens in Lombard

The Dump opens this weekend in the old Great Indoors space.

A new kind of furniture store—albeit with a strange name—is hosting its grand opening this weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 2, in Lombard.

According to TheDump.com, the company buys "overstocks, one-of-a-kinds, factory sell-outs, showroom models and design prototypes" and sells them at discounts of up to 80 percent. It's called "The Dump" because they've dumped the overhead so you can dump the way you normally shop for furniture, according to the website.

Shoppers will find brand new furniture, rugs, mattresses and more. The store keeps the overhead low—they're only open Friday through Sunday, except this Labor Day weekend, which includes Monday—to pass the savings on to the consumer. Inventory changes quickly and is different week to week.

The 134,000-square-foot Lombard store is the only Illinois location of The Dump. It's warehouse, which is nearly twice that size, is next door in Addison. The company, based in Virginia Beach, has 10 other stores, but you'd have to go to Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Texas or Arizona to find one. So, the Lombard store has the potential of drawing from a large part of the Chicago area.

The store occupies the former location of The Great Indoors, at 2860 S. Highland Ave. Here is a list of jobs available at this location.
