Fresh Market Grocery in Glen Ellyn Slated for Winter Opening

The European-style grocery store is currently under construction and will serve as the centerpiece of a new Glen Ellyn shopping center.

With construction on the new 34,2000-sq. ft. Glen Ellyn Market Shopping Center at 285 Roosevelt Road well underway, its flagship launch tenant, The Fresh Market grocery store, is now scheduled to open sometime over the 2013-2014 winter, the Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, North Carolina-based The Fresh Market a European-style market with more customer-staff interaction; it recently opened a store in Lincolnshire. The developers of the shopping center are receiving a tax incentive in the form of a 36 percent return of sales-tax revenue paid to the Village of Glen Ellyn, the paper said.

“We’re just extremely excited to open in Glen Ellyn and serve that customer in Chicago... We really appreciate that opportunity," Fresh Market's vice president of real estate Rob Koch told the paper.

“We feel like the customer base there in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton really fits with the type of customer that appreciates our product."

The Fresh Market was founded in 1982 and is a specialty grocery retailer, according to the company. The Fresh Market’s focus is on providing high-quality products in a unique and inviting atmosphere with a high level of customer service. It operates 131 stores in 25 states, primarily located in the Southeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, with plans for continued expansion throughout the country. 

According to a news release from The Fresh Market, it has built its reputation on being an extraordinary food destination.

“From bountiful produce and a full-service meat counter to convenient prepared foods and an in-store bakery, customers will discover that our stores are committed to variety, freshness and value as well as superior customer service,” Craig Carlock, the company’s president and CEO said in the release.
