Buying a Dairy Queen Blizzard Helps Children's Hospital

Dairy Queen holds Aug. 11 ice cream fundraiser.

It’s Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen on Aug. 11.

When any customer purchases a blizzard treat, $1 will go toward helping a sick and injured child at the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.

Both the Glen Ellyn Dairy Queen stores will be doing their part to help with the cause.

To encourage customers to come into the ice cream shops, the stores will be hosting games and activities for families.

The Roosevelt Road Dairy Queen, located at 684 Roosevelt, will provide games, a dunk tank, face painting, and water balloons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. While on the same day, the  850 N. Main Street, will host a spin-the-wheel game for free prizes.

“We raise money all year (for CMN), but the Miracle Day is the day we really put on the push,” said Gary Mayo, owner of the Glen Ellyn Dairy Queen stores. “It really gets to you when you see what these kids go through. It makes a huge impact, and all the families are so grateful.”

The cost of a blizzard treat averages $3 to $5. And if customers don’t desire to have a blizzard on Aug. 11, they can purchase a coupon to redeem a blizzard on another day.

The Glen Ellyn Dairy Queen has raised about $20,000 for its CMN network, which directly benefits Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. And nationally, since 1984, Dairy Queen has raised $86 million for CMN hospitals, including $5.5 million last year.
