3 Ideas for This Lent Season

While Lent is a 40-day preparation for Easter in Christian religions, it could also be an opportunity to make some changes, including financial ones, which could positively impact your life.

Some ideas for this Lent season:

1. Give a little more

  • Clean out your closet and dresser and donate clothes to those that need or would appreciate them.
  • Donate books to libraries (have you read most of the books on your shelf?)
  • Create a Charitable Gift Mutual Fund Account – You fund the account and get the tax deduction. The money grows in the account and you decide the amount and charity or church, which will receive the donations.

2. Give up a food or beverage that you consider your guilty pleasure. You will be much healthier 40 days from now

3. Be a more Conscientious Steward of your money

Stewardship is about being financially responsible. For consumers, I think it comes down to avoiding impulse buying and thinking twice before pulling out a credit card because you threw more items than you planned in your shopping cart. We live in a “want more” society and it is difficult to step back and look at all the little things we waste money on without thinking twice. It is no surprise that many of my peers will not have nearly enough money to retire at the age that they plan.

You couldn’t possibly realize where all your income from last month went, yet alone last year. Try spending only cash for the next 40 days (other than gas) and give yourself a finite amount of money and see if you can make it last.

Implementing one or a few of these ideas will have a positive impact on your life.
