Three Ways to Make Your Life Better Starting Today

Money doesn't buy happiness, what can help in 2013 and beyond....

Money doesn’t buy happiness, but what can?

As I vacation in Marco Island with my family, I am reminded the answer is love and great relationships.  Often we act as if relationships are something to be squeezed into our schedule. We talk about finding time for our children and making time for people in our lives. Relationships, not achievements or the acquisition of things, are what is most important in life. Busyness is the great enemy of relationships.

Going forward here are three things you can resolve to focus on that will make you a happier person.

  1.  Show more affection to your loved ones and close friends.  Try greeting the people you care about with hugs and kisses (when appropriate) rather than just words.  If you normally give these people hugs, hold them a little longer and a little tighter.   You will feel the difference and so will they.  It is a winning idea that will make you both happier.
  2. Pay a compliment to everyone you engage with.  Few things brighten someone else’s day the way a compliment does.  If this becomes a habit, it will forever alter how you are perceived by others.  It is a free gift you are giving to those you come in contact with. One that the receiver will appreciate and enhance the mood of your engagement with them.
  3. Be mindful of how you spend your time. Time is one asset we all have in equal amounts. When you choose to watch television or spend time looking at your smart phone you are probably misusing your most valuable possession.  The best way to positively impact an important relationship in your life is to carve out more time to spend with that person and make that a priority.  This is true with your spouse, parents, children, friends and neighbors.  The clock is ticking for all of us, what are you waiting for?

Relationships are the most important thing in your life.  Becoming more aware of this and doing these three simple and free things will have a positive effect on them and ultimately make you a much happier person.
