Pioneer Experiences for the Whole Family at Glen Ellyn Tavern Day Celebration

     Sunday, September 30, the Glen Ellyn Historical Society Tavern Day Celebration plans to transport visitors back to the days of the pioneers. Beginning at 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. all the triumphs, hardships, and village life can be experienced as well as the merriment, tall stories and music of the era.  Goodrich’s Farm will have  goats, rabbits, chickens and a beautiful horse on display,  an 1860’s one room schoolhouse will be in session all afternoon for present day students to immerse themselves in a pioneer school day, corn needs to shucked, rope needs to woven, and logs need to be sawed.
     Pioneer crafts, chores, games, and stories are all ready to be shared by everyone.  To give everyone strength to participate, the Apple Festival Bake Sale has pastries and cookies for sale.  Homemade pies, cakes, fruit breads are available for families to take home and enjoy around their kitchen table.  Mum plants are for sale and when placed on a front porch will kindle the fall spirit  and remind us Halloween is fast approaching. The location of Tavern Day Celebration is Stacy’s Historic Corners at 800 N. Main Street.Tickets are on sale Monday, September 3 until Saturday, Sept. 29.  Prices are:  Adults $6, Children (3 - 17) $3, and family $20.  Advance tickets are all priced at GEHS member rates.  Tavern Day tickets bought Sept. 30 on site  are : Adults $8, Children (3-17) $4, and family ticket $25.
