Historical Society Puts “Fun” into a Fund Raiser

It’s not often that a person  gets to combine imbibing and education. However, such will be the case on Saturday evening, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. when the Glen Ellyn Historical Society hosts a fund raiser titled, “Spiritous Beverages of the Pioneer Days,” at the History Center, 800 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn.. The program will provide an entertaining overview of the ways our forefathers (and mothers) would wet their whistle and whet their appetite some 150 or more years ago. From hard cider to sack posset, fine wines to moonshine, come learn about and sample these tasty beverages!

The program will include an informative talk, fascinating old photos, a model of a moonshine still and, of course, opportunities to try the drinks that fortified (and sometimes ruined) those who settled America. Admission for this “fun” fund raiser will be $50 per person and will be limited to adults of drinking age. The History Center can accommodate up to  75 people, so it is recommended that tickets be purchased well in advance, especially for people who want to enjoy this experience with a group of neighbors and friends so they can  celebate a truly "Spiritous" evening. Tickets are available at Stacy’s Corners Store. Call 630-469-1867, or come over to Stacy's Corner Store, 800 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn.  Hours for the store are Tues. through Sat. 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Sun.  1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
