Get heart healthy: Walk the mall with Adventist GlenOaks Hospital

Glendale Heights – Learn about heart health and heart disease prevention at “Walk the Mall for Life,” presented by Adventist GlenOaks Hospital from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 12 at Stratford Square Mall, Army Trail Road and Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale. The free event will include screenings for blood pressure and diabetes. Full lipid profiles also are available – a 12-hour fast is required. The event also features health consultations, wellness booths, games, giveaways and prizes. Each registered walker will receive a T-shirt, tote bag full of goodies, and a chance to win a $500 Stratford Square Mall gift card. February is American Heart Month.

“Walk the Mall for Life” is sponsored by the hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute, Adventist Lab Partners, Stratford Square Mall, Bloomingdale Park District and Chicago’s Rewind 100.3 FM.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., and a major cause of disability,” said Dr. Aziz Ahmed, an interventional cardiologist who is medical director of Adventist GlenOaks Hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory. “Making healthy choices, including lifestyle changes, can greatly reduce the risk of heart attacks. It’s also important to know the warning signs of heart disease.”
