DSO presents "Passionate and Poignant"

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO) opens its 2011-2012 concert season with an exciting performance including the works of Shostakovich, Albert, and Tchaikovsky.  The program will take place on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 8:00pm in Wentz Concert Hall, 171 East Chicago Avenue in Naperville, on the campus of North Central College.  This will be an invigorating start to the DSO’s celebratory year, commemorating Maestra Barbara Schubert’s 25 years as Music Director and Conductor.

The program opens with Shostakovich’s  rousing “Festive Overture,” an energizing piece to set the tone for what will be a thrilling season.  The DSO is proud to announce that acclaimed soprano Patrice Michaels joins the orchestra to present Pulitzer Prize winning composer Stephen Albert’s “Flower of the Mountain” plus an additional vocal treat.  The concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, the “Pathétique.”  This symphony will be a compelling conclusion to a refreshing concert, as Tchaikovsky himself considered this to be his finest work.

Tickets may be purchased through the NCC Box Office, 630.637.SHOW/7469 or online at http://tickets.noctrl.edu. Please see the DuPage Symphony’s website (www.dupagesymphony.org) for further information on the rest of this exciting celebratory season.
