Tom Skilling's 34th Annual Tornado Seminar Will Blow Your Socks Off

Two presentations of extreme weather seminar take place at Fermilab in Batavia this Saturday, April 5.

Hosted by the great WGN chief meteorologist, Tom Skilling, the free, four-hour program will run twice on Saturday at noon and repeat again at 6 p.m. The extreme weather seminar will be held in the Fermilab Ramsey Auditorium at South Kirk Road and Pine Street, in Batavia. (Enter the lab through the Pine Street entrance.)

Highlighting the 2014 seminar is a presentation on the November’s 7-state tornado outbreak including the EF-4 twister that ripped through Washington, IL, on Nov. 17.

Other program highlights noted on the Chicago Weather Center blog:

  • Nobel-prize winning climate scientist Dr. Don Wuebbles, speaking on how these severe weather outbreaks fit into our planet’s changing climate and what they may tell us of the future.

    If you’ve never been to an extreme weather seminar at Fermilab, expect lots of high-def graphics and video of satellite weather images, tornadoes and hurricanes that reach out and grab you in your seat.

    After the presentation, you’ll see why Tom Skilling, who received a 10-minute standing ovation the last time we went, is the Mick Jagger of meteorology.

    Admission is free is on first-come, first-serve basis. The program is EXTREMELY POPULAR and there are some attendees who’ve been to most of the last 34 annual seminars, so get there early.

    If you love weather and science, you will love the Fermilab/WGN-TV Tornado and Extreme Weather Seminar. You can also hang out afterward and meet Tom Skilling, who will spend ten minutes talking to your kid about weather.
