Stalled Freight Train Makes a Mess of the Morning Commute in Glen Ellyn

Train blocked all crossings for about four hours Wednesday.

The Wednesday morning commute in Glen Ellyn was a huge mess due to a stopped freight train blocking all three railroad crossings in town: at Prospect, Main Street and Park Boulevard.

Glen Ellyn police discovered the blocked train at about 4:30 a.m. and immediately contacted Union Pacific to move the train.

Due to the commuter rush hour, Glen Ellyn police were assigned to monitor the crossings for the safety of pedestrians. Metra trains continued to operate on the tracks, according to a press release from Glen Ellyn police. Officers also were assigned to facilitate traffic flow at the Taylor Street underpass.
