While Glen Ellyn did not make a recent list ranking the top 50 safest cities in Illinois, nearby Wheaton and Winfield did, according to a Safewise.com report.
The top 50 safest cities list by Safewise.com used the recent FBI Crime Report along with its own independent research to compile its list. To make the list, a city had to have a population of over 5,000 as of 2012, according to a Safewise.com report.
"We analyze the number of violent crimes (aggravated assault, forcible rape, murder, robbery) and property crimes (arson, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft) and then calculate the chance of these crimes happening out of 1,000 in order to level the playing field for the different populations of each city," according to the SafeWise Report.
Wheaton was listed as the 40th safest town in Illinois with .23 violent crimes happening per 1,000 and 10.89 property crimes happening per 1,000, according to Safewise.com. Safewise.com ranked Winfield as the 9th safest town in Illinois.
