Kiwanis Host Free Pancake Breakfast
The event will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn.
On Saturday, May 7, between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., residents are invited to attend the buttermilk pancake breakfast at the First United Methodist Church.
Kiwanis’ Vice President Penny Linneweh explained, “The community has just been very supportive [of our endeavors],” she said, “We wanted to do something to say thank you and thought this was a nice gesture.”
On Saturday, May 7 the Kiwanis will be hosting a free pancake breakfast to help raise money for scholarships, grants and youth programs. Linneweh has been a member of the volunteer group for close to 20 years and currently serves as its vice president. Her husband, Glenn Scott, serves as the Glen Ellyn Kiwanis’s President.

“Our house is just full of Kiwanis’ spirit right now,” laughed Linneweh. “Anyone and everyone is welcome, it is a completely free event.”
Attendees are also invited to peruse the hanging plant baskets that will be available for purchase, and to pick up their previously-ordered Vidalia onions. Donation jars will be available and any leftover food from the event, including leftover onions, will be donated to a food pantry.

“We use the money from the foundation for scholarships, we help the Children’s Resource Center, issue grants, and help support our youth programs, Key Clubs, Aktion Club, and Builder’s Club,” she said.
According to Ms. Linneweh, the event functions on a ‘come when you can’ basis. Anytime between those hours, residents may enter the church at 424 Forest Ave., to mingle with other residents and Kiwanis members while consuming pancakes and other breakfast foods.
Linneweh speaks proudly of her group and the Glen Ellyn community, “Our main focus is helping kids be as much as they can be...our community has been incredibly supportive of that goal.”
In support of her statement, she said that Dairy Queen donated gift certificates for free ice cream cones that are expected to be handed out to children who attend the breakfast.
The bottom line here is that Mother’s Day weekend can be filled with fun for everyone, rich and poor alike, while helping out a volunteer group that continues to serve the community.
