Hoop Dreams: Two Stories About Going For It

A note from Editor Matthew Hendrickson about today's two basketball stories.

Today on Glen Ellyn Patch, we're finally making it out of the blizzard. After 2 1/2 days of snow coverage, it feels right to get back on with life.

Our top stories to lead the day today are all about dreams. We chose to run them both as separate articles to give the full story on two College of DuPage students who are really going for gold.

Both subjects in our stories are basketball players on the Chaprralls team, but come from very different backgrounds.  is a nearly 40-year-old veteran who's going back to school and trying to everything he can out of it.   is a Japanese expatriate who came to the United States for his education, but ended up at College of DuPage for the basketball program.

Even though neither student is a star player (you didn't think this was a Disney movie a la Mighty Ducks did you?), both stories show that heart and perseverance makes a winner every time.

I found both stories to be exceptionally intriguing and I hope you will too. I'd love it if readers could post in comments, or email me about people they know who are doing amazing things too!
