Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company Holds Annual Open House Saturday

Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand Saturday to meet with children as the fire company holds its annual open house in advance of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7 - 13.

Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand Saturday as the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co. holds its annual open house and safety expo to kick off Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13.

Children will have the opportunity to meet with Sparky and participate in a number of activities that are planned. This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Always Have Two Ways Out.” 

During the open house children will have the chance to dress up like firefighters and to practice STOP, DROP and ROLL, according to Craig Eldridge, public information officer for the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co.

In addition, a safety trailer will be on site, awards will be given for the fire company’s poster contest and treats will be handed out.

The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the fire company’s downtown station at the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Anyone who is unable to attend the program Saturday is welcome to stop in at either of the company’s stations on Oct. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.
