Foodie Tuesday: Sweet Fundraiser; Football Munchies Demonstration

The Glen Ellyn Public Library brings a chef to town to talk football food. While the park district partners with a new local yogurt shop to raise funds.

Football munchies

We are first and 10 into the football season. What would football be without the food? Fun television, but not much of an event.

All fall, the Glen Ellyn Public Library is celebrating everything football, which includes food.

The library is hosting a special program Wednesday night that will feature “Tailgating Munchies.”

Chef Dave Esau, owner of Dave’s Specialty Foods in Mount Prospect will be preparing football-themed foods and snacks for those in attendance to sample, according to the Glen Ellyn Public Library. Some of the food samples will include Cajun spice wings, spicy sausage kabobs and sweet potato quesadillas.

During the program, Esau will share directions on how to prepare the foods and will send recipes home with attendees.

Sweet deal for park district

On Wednesday, frozen treat eaters have the chance to enjoy yogurt and help the park district at the newly opened SkinnySweet Frozen Yogurt.

The Glen Ellyn Park District has partnered with the yogurt shop for a fundraising event on Wednesday.

From noon to 8 p.m. SkinnySweet will donate 20 percent of yogurt sales to the park district.

Funds raised through the event will go toward the park district’s scholarship fund, which assists youths and families who could not afford to participate, according to the Glen Ellyn Park District.

The park district has held other fundraisers, including three held in partnership with Meatheads in August and September.
