Flooding Closes Glen Ellyn Library Until April 29

No books have been damaged, but the library experienced significant flooding.

The Glen Ellyn Public Library will remain closed until Monday, April 29 due to significant flooding from the severe storms that passed through the Chicago area, according to the library’s spokesman Anthony McGinn.

“Early this morning, the library had 5 feet of water contained in the mechanical room located in the basement of our building. At that time our library staff contacted the Glen Ellyn fire department who responded and assisted in pumping water out of the building,” he said.

As of Thursday afternoon, an unknown amount of water still remained in the mechanical room, McGinn said.

The flooding did not damage the library’s collection, he said.

“Our Library director Dawn Bussey is working very hard to remove the water, repair the damages, and ensure the safety of the building before reopening on Monday, April 29,” he said.
