Lenten Series to Focus on Forgiveness with Guest Speaker, Magda Brown
First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn invites the community to attend “Focusing on Forgiveness,” a five-week Lenten series that examines how to honestly and realistically seek it, extend it, and accept it into our lives. Guest speaker Magda Brown, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor, will share her powerful and memorable story on what it means to forgive one’s enemies. Ms. Brown will speak at the church on Sunday, March 18 at 8:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and again on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m.
Over the course of five weeks, Focusing on Forgiveness topics will be shared during both the 8:45 and 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship services from February 26 through March 25, and again at Wednesday fellowship gatherings from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., February 29 through March 28. The community is invited to share in a light supper from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Childcare will be provided at all event dates and times.

From the Illinois Holocaust Museum site: On June 11,1944, Magda’s 17th birthday, she and her family were crowded onto a rail car together with 80 other people. They travelled for three days without water, food or any idea where they were being deported. Their transport’s final destination was Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. After her arrival Magda and her family were part of a selection and were split into two groups. Magda was seperated from her entire family.
