Camden Feels Right At Home On Stage

Camden Repking is a whiz kid in the theater.

Camden Repking is quite the actor!

Camden is 12 years old and in seventh grade at St. Petronille School in Glen Ellyn.  He began his acting back in second grade when he performed in the St. Pet’s production of Annie.  He had the role of the dog catcher.  He thought it was a great role to start out with as it was not too big, or too small.  Camden recommends starting out with a role that falls into this category because it is not too overwhelming when you are just beginning.

Camden has been in several productions.  At the Christian Youth Theater he had parts in Suessical the Musical, Narnia, Charlotte’s Web and The Sound of Music.  He participated in A Christmas Story, Aristocats, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown all through the Stacey De & Company group.

Camden has taken voice lessons at Stacey De & Company with Melissa Cobb for the past four years and also took some acting classes at Christian Youth Theater. His favorite role was Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.  I liked that role because it was the first time he played an animal. He had always played a person in past performances.

His favorite thing about theater is the friends that he makes.  It gives him a chance to talk to new people about new things, like the high schools they go to and they can hang out.

“The theater community is an easy place to make friends,” Camden said.

When asked about his least favorite part, he told me it was a hard question.  He really likes everything about it, but if he had to choose something it would be learning the songs for the first time and having to repeat them over and over again.

Camden does not really get nervous before a performance, but he said sometimes he thinks about the possibility of messing up. Once he goes on stage, however, it all goes away.  When he grows up he would like to be a grade school teacher. He especially enjoyed first through third grade levels.  When he is not doing theater, Camden enjoys playing basketball and fooling around with his little brother and sister.

Camden can be seen in the Christian Youth Theater’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory production coming this May.  I have seen Camden in several performances and he is so comfortable on stage and it is especially evident how much he enjoys theater.  He is also incredibly encouraging to other kids in theater and enjoys being a supportive and enthusiastic mentor.  If you have not seen a production at Christian youth Theater, they are wonderful and seeing Camden in action would just add to the experience.

All of us can look forward to more wonderful performances around town from Camden Repking.

I am looking for kids around Glen Ellyn with fun talents that I can share with the rest of our community.  If you know anyone, please email me with their name.  We would love to hear about kids from all grades and ALL the Glen Ellyn schools.  Please pass this on to anyone you know.  Glen Ellyn is full of amazing kids and we would all like to hear about them. - Pam Kelleher
