The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Chicago Midwest Chapter, recently awarded The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn designers with five of its 2013 Design Vision Awards.

The prestigious competition, honors kitchen and bath designers who plan safe, functional, and beautiful spaces on the basis of visual appeal and creativity, as well as principles of design and presentation.
“We were delighted this year to be winners in four separate categories. In addition, to have been chosen for 'Best of Show' was an honor and a nice validation of the thought and work we put into each and every project. This particular project was very challenging, but with the help of an open-minded client, it offered the opportunity to do something quite unique," said Susan Klimala, designer and co-owner of The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn. The task set out for Klimala was to create a full guest bath out of two small adjoining closets.
"Being faced with a very limited amount of space, the first step was to get everything up off the floor," said Klimala. A wall hung vanity, wall hung toilet and a curb free shower help to create a sense of space inside the room. Due to the limited space, a wet room concept was used, requiring all the materials to be waterproof -- porcelain, teak and tile. Large format, floor-to-ceiling tiles help make the room appear larger. Smaller format tiles in a dark color provide contrast and a sure grip for safety on the floor.
The award-winning projects were located in Glen Ellyn, Geneva and Elburn.
