Miniature Gardening New Topic for Discussion at Lombard Garden Club

Past President of the Lombard Garden Club, Cher Herlache and President elect of the Lombard Garden Club, Barbara Johnson, shared their love of miniature gardening with the club members and guests at the Friday, August 23 meeting.  Herlache shared with
the audience that she was introduced to miniature gardening back in the late 50’s and has enjoyed her association with the “fairies and wee folk” that populate her garden scenes.  Using a Power Point program, she was able to show the basic spring planting
of these gardens and the growth changes that occur as the season continues.  There are nine major considerations such as locations, how to start, developing a theme, gathering , building, focal points, plants to use, maintaining and accessorizing.
Barbara Johnson gave suggestions of containers to use and described the bird bath that she converted to a miniature garden.  Many of the local nurseries now carry miniature accessories to decorate the gardens as well as a variety of miniature plants that can be used.
