Lev Garbar, District 89 Band Director Receives Note of Excellence Award from CYSO

 Lev Garbar, Band Director in Community Consolidated School District 89 was awarded the 2014 “Note of Excellence” award at the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s annual gala  on Saturday, February 1, 2014 , at Chicago’s Four Seasons Hotel.  Acclaimed columnist and film critic, Richard Roeper emceed the event.  Over 300 patrons were in attendance and raised money for the CYSO’s music training and education programs.  Along with musical performances by the CYSO Symphony Orchestra, awards were given to three outstanding categories of support for the CYSO.  Garbar won the “Note of Excellence “ award for music inspiration, Terrance Malone Gray was honored for Leadership and Service, and Luminarts Cultural Foundation of the Union League of Chicago were recognized for being a Champion for Youth and Music.  Garbar’s former student at Glen Crest Middle School, Matthew Sampey, who is now a freshman at Glenbard South High School, nominated Garbar for this year’s Music Inspiration Award.  Sampey was a member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra during his middle school years.
