Two classes of seventh grade Literacy students at Glen Crest Middle School who are taught by Laura Guzman and Teri Pehta, had an exciting Wednesday afternoon. AT 1:00 pm. Charley Bejna from Addison, Illinois walked in to Spartan Hall accompanied by his sled dog, Thunder, to spend some quality time with these students. In class, the students read and researched the history of the Iditarod and discussed the motivation of the men and women who participated in the race. To meet, get acquainted and interact with an actual musher was the best part of the course of study according to the classes. Thunder is a mixed breed sled dog and she is thirteen years old and retired from racing. She charmed the audience with her calm and interested expression as her master talked about his Iditarod lifestyle. Bejna plans to race in 2014 and will begin training in Alaska very soon for the race in March of 2014.
