As a seventh grader, Michael Zima won the Glen Crest Middle School National Geographic Society Bee in the Glen Crest contest. Now and eighth grader, Michael Zima was victorious again in 2013!  He is scheduled to take a written test along with all the other individual school winners across the United States and in the five U.S. territories who are participating.  The top 100 scorers in the written contest will go on to compete in their state test.  If Zima is successful, who knows, Washington D.C. here he comes!
The excitement this year was the duel  for 2nd place between two semi-finalists.  The 2nd place winner was sixth grader, Jack Hurst.  The 2013 semi-finalists for Glen Crest were Tristan Arlos (8), Mary Kate Cooke (8), Jack Hurst (6), Michael Zima  (8),  Madi Field (6), Robby Schmieder (8), Tess Schwarz (8), and Joshua Trimarco (6).  The Glen Crest National Geographic Bee was coordinated by the middle school social studies department, chaired by Debbie Pruitt.  Members of the social studies department are Pat Doyle, Kris Casey, Katie McGrath, Amy Switzer, and Craig Hofmann.
