Getting a Quick Start to their New Life

Barbara and John Dries were ready to relinquish what had become their burden of homeownership.   “We lived in our English Tudor-style home on St. Charles Road in Elmhurst for 50 years,” said John.   The two-story, eight room home had gradually become a challenge for the couple to maintain.   “Barbara was always making sure that everything was immaculate but it was just too much. She can’t stand anything not just perfect so instead of relaxing, she was always working,” he said.

Although the couple knew that they wanted to move to Lexington Square in Elmhurst, they dreaded the process; especially the prospect of putting their home on the market.   “We’ve had friends who have tried to sell their homes, and it’s taken months if not years,” said John.   Not only did they not want the stress; but they also worried about the finances. “Even if you don’t have a mortgage, there are significant expenses that go on and on,” said John.   “And the taxes in Elmhurst are so high,” added Barbara.

A professional sales counselor at Lexington Square in Elmhurst introduced the couple to Moving Station, the relocation company with which Lexington has a partnership. The couple subsequently became the first to participate in Moving Station’s Quick Buy Program. Through this new initiative, Moving Station will offer to buy qualifying homes, and pay in cash within 30 days.   The homeowner does not have to lift a finger in order to make the home show-ready: no repairs, renovations or updates are necessary. The home is sold “as is” based on the market value.

“This program guaranteed that the entire transaction would be completed within 30 days,” said John. “This was such a weight off of our minds. That’s why we did this. It’s been 50 years since we’ve changed households and I’d forgotten all that was involved.   Trying to coordinate the home sale by ourselves would have been such a hassle.”

Rather than being forced to deal with the logistics of having to market and sell their home, the couple instead dove headfirst into becoming involved in their new lifestyle at Lexington Square in Elmhurst. Before they even officially moved into their beautiful two-bedroom apartment, John was heading over to Lexington daily for different programs. “I love all of the activities here. You can do as much or as little as you want,” said John.

“He’s already busier than he’s been in years,” said Barbara.   Prior to their move they were also recruited to star in a theatrical production at Lexington Square.  “It’s been lots of fun,” said John.
