Community Invited to Glen Crest Don’t Let the Fire Burn Out Event

Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 PM, Glen Crest Middle School,  located at 725 Sheehan Avenue in Glen Ellyn, was the scene of the FOR CLUB’S (Friends of Rachel)

luminaria event, “Don’t Let the Fire Burn Out.”  Rachel’s Challenge is a national organization that works toward eliminating bullying, eliminating school violence, and educating young people about eliminating mean-spirited behavior.  The school clubs sponsored by Rachel’s Challenge are called FOR CLUBS.  Glen Crest has been part of this movement for two full years.  Area residents came to Glen Crest Wed. Nov. 20 at 7:00 PM and took part in the lighting of a luminaria to honor those who have been impacted by any form of bullying or mean behavior.  The luminaria kits were $1 and included a bag and a glow stick with paper and writing pens to decorate bags, write a message, or write the names of people who have suffered the consequences of this negative behavior.

At 7:00 PM, the participants filed into the Glen Crest gymnasium and  lit their glowing luminaria.  The Glen Crest chorus sang and  a short explanation was given about  the background of the Rachel’s  Challenge organization.  The FOR CLUB members thanked not ony the only Glen Crest families, but also the community members who joined them for this meaningful event.
