Barone's of Glen Ellyn Flattered By Flowerpot Tribute

In honor of its 43rd Anniversary, Barone’s Pizza is the focus of twelve painted flowerpots currently displayed throughout Downtown Glen Ellyn. Each summer, local artists and community members pay tribute to one local business by decorating a flowerpot and displaying it in town. This year, most of these flowerpots can be seen along Main Street between Hillside Ave and Pennsylvania Ave in downtown Glen Ellyn, while one sits in front of Suki’s Salon on Hillside Avenue and another is located on the south-west corner of Five Corners.

The annual showcase began seven years ago by Iryl Tortorella, co-founder of FloorOpedics, and the Glen Ellyn Appearance Committee who wanted to honor the Glen Ellyn Fire Department’s 100th Anniversary. Since then, the flowerpots have represented local staples like McChesney & Miller, Paul’s Shoe Services, Five Corners Cleaners, Soukups Hardware & Appliances, and Katy’s Boutique. The flowerpots are supplied by the Village of Glen Ellyn and distributed downtown by the PublicWorks department.

This year’s participants were: FloorOpedics, Inc, The Chamber of Commerce, Bottle & Bottega, Geoff Bevington, M and Em’s, Girl Scout Troop 2087, Precision Payroll, Any Art You Want, Run Today, The Green Branch, SkyWriter, and the Village of Glen Ellyn.

To show its appreciation for being selected as the focus of this year’s display, Barone’s is holding a competition for all of the participants who decorated flowerpots. Everyone is encouraged to view the flowerpots in person, then visit the Barone’s website—bpizza.com—to cast a vote for their favorite design. Decorators of the flowerpot with the most votes receive a $100 Barone’s Gift Card. Voting on the website will run through August 31st. Winners will be announced on the Barone’s website on September 1st.
