The weather forecast today is calling for hot temperatures with a high of 93 degrees expected in Glen Ellyn. The heat index value Friday could reach 99 degrees. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, mainly before 10 p.m., and the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Chicago area until 9 p.m. Friday. For those heading out of town today for the long Labor Day weekend, you may need to prepare for traffic delays. AAA is reporting Friday will be the busiest day for travel and that this year should mark the first increase in Labor Day traffic since the recession-driven decline in travel.
