Wheaton-Glen Ellyn American Association of University Women presents LOVING RELATIONSHIPS, a special poetry reading by Don Westlake, on Wed., March 7, 2012, 7:00 p.m. Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane St., Glen Ellyn
Our speaker is Don Westlake, husband of Branch member Helen Westlake. Don was a basic researcher in materials science at Argonne National Laboratory. He authored or co-authored more than 120 papers published in various scientific journals, but he didn't write poetry until he retired in 1984. Initially, his poems were an attempt to tell the story of growing up in a tiny village (Elburn, Illinois) during the Great Depression, but his writing evolved to cover diverse subjects. His poems are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always simple, and always seeking to connect with the listener.
